Langkawi

This past weekend Gary and I went to the island of Langkawi with Jonathan (from Nashville), Reen, Intan, and Frashilla (from work)!  What a fun trip!

We didn't get there until late, but we were all starving so we found the closest (literally) seafood restaurant to our hotel.  We sat right on the dock.

I know it's too dark, but it was so nice!

The next morning we went island hopping.  This is where we started.  I love those sailboats!

A big Sailboat!

A pirate boat?

Playing frisbee on the beach

We had a few visitors...
Wild Boars and...

Monkeys!!!  One of them took some cookies out of Jonathan's bag.  He ran off and up a tree and then all the monkeys followed him.  Later a brave monkey came further onto the beach and took two things from a girls bag when she was standing right beside it.  They are ruthless I tell ya!!

We did an eagle feeding!!  These pics don't really show how many there were out there.

The last island we went to was a lake called "the pregnant lady lake"
There were once again, monkeys everywhere

Even a different kind of monkey.  Gary said they have eyeshadow on.

Gary and I went out on the paddle boat and this Intan, Frashilla, and Reen on the dock.

It was a pretty lake

Can you see the pregnant lady laying down??

Then it was shopping because Langkawi is tax free!!!!

Check out the huge pipe...no we did not buy it, but Gary sure wanted to.

Comparing to a normal size one.

Then the HUGE cigar...once again did not purchase!!

It was a short trip, but we had so much fun and we love the girls for taking us!!  It was so much better going with some locals that know where all the good spots are!!

Time to Shave December

You may remember November is the No Shave month.  So, once December hit it was time to cut that thing off.  So, Wednesday night we got out the shaving cream, razors, scissors, and of course the camera.
This was on November 1st.  Yes, the beard was already long then.

This was December 1st, right before we shaved it off.  If only you could touch it you could understand how thick it was under his chin.

His electric razor didn't make it through the international trip.  It hasn't been charging ever since he got here, so we had to resort to using scissors to get the bulk of it off.

The first cut!  Do you see tears in his eyes?

He even let me help!!

Getting a little sad I think.

The big parts were gone, now to find that skin under there.

There it is!

A semi hint of what he would look like with a goatee.  Of course his mustache would not be that thick.

a little mustache, soul patch action.

He loves combing his mustache.

Flip the ends.

That's so disgusting!!

I think it's better when he smiles.  HAHA!!

No soul patch.

combed down.

goodbye mustache...

This is to show you how long his mustache was.  It curled over his lips...GROSS!!!!

Oh wait one more!!  You may think this is a Hitler pic, but it could also be Charlie Chaplain.

There was hair everywhere.  It was nasty!!

It's all gone!!!!

Then he said his nose hairs were too long.  HAHA!!

Gary "Do I look like Justin Bieber?"  HAHA...no I don't think so!!

This is just a little short video of when some of the people at church saw him for the first time.  Also, when we went to breakfast at our hotel the morning after he shaved the people there loved it and thought I had a new boyfriend.  Everyone thinks he looks so much younger.  Also, in this video his hair is cut!  Sorry I didn't get a picture of that, but just trust me, he looks really cute!!  He said when he went and got his hair cut that the lady only used thinning scissors and at first he looked like a local.  He asked her to take a little more off the back and it started looking more like how Chloe does it, but thankfully Chloe is still his favorite!!

Happy Shaving,
Kimberly

Wet bathroom floors are my favorite!!

As most of you know this country is a Muslim country.  60.4 percent of the total population are Muslims in Malaysia.  All ethnic Malays are Muslim (100%) as defined by Article 160 of the Constitution of Malaysia. If an Indian, Chinese, American, or any other ethnicity marries a Malay they MUST convert to Muslim.  There are very strict rules in place not only as a country, but the religion itself is strict.  As required by Malaysian law and defined in the Constitution of Malaysia, a Malay would surrender his ethnic status if he were not Muslim.  The Constitution also provides that Islam is the religion of the country but other religions may be practiced in peace and harmony (Article 3).  However, in order for a Malay to conver to a different religion they must leave Malaysia.  There could be serious consequences if the government finds out about their conversion.
Muslims are required to pray 5 prayers every day.  These prayers are Fajr (dawn), Dohr (noon), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (sunset), and Ishaa (night). The times for these prayers depend on the day and location.  They also have to be completely clean and pure when they pray, so they must go through a washing of the entire body process:
1. It is recommended to say بِسم الله “Bismillah” (with the Name of Allah) while washing the hands.

2. It is recommended to wash the two hands with the wrists three times
3.It is recommended to rinse the mouth three times using the right hand.
4.It is recommended to draw water into the nose with the right hand and to blow it out of the nose with the left hand three times.
5. It is an obligation to have the proper intention. When the water touches the first part of your face say in your heart “I intend to perform wudu'”.
6. It is an obligation to wash your face, from the normal hairline to the chin and from one ear to the other including the hair and skin. The inner part of the man’s thick beard is excluded.
7. If a string was put at the middle of the forehead at the normal hairline and drawn to the top of the ear, then one washes all that would be below that string, both hair and skin, with the ears excluded.
8. It is recommended to wash the face three times.
9.It is an obligation to wash the hands, forearms, and elbows.
10. It is recommended to wash them three times each. Start with the right and then the left.

11. It is an obligation to wet wipe part of the head, between the normal hairline and the occiput.

12. It is recommended to wet wipe both ears three times.

13. It is an obligation to wash the feet with the ankles. It is recommended to wash them three times starting with the right foot.

14. Do the obligatory parts (from step 1 to 10) in the aforementioned order.
15. It is recommended to say a supplication after finishing wudu’.

There are many more rules regarding the private part cleanliness of the body, but with the above mentioned steps you can see how much goes into these 5 daily prayers.

So, as you probably have gathered the bathroom can get crowded and the floors can get quite soaked at certain times of the day.  I try to plan my bathroom breaks around prayer times so that A) I can have a little piece and quiet for a few minutes and B) hopefully the cleaning lady has come and mopped up all the water so I don't have to get the bottoms of my pants all wet.  On the other hand, it is neat to be in there when they are preparing for their prayers because the ones who wear the full head coverings, remove them to wash their face and hair.  I get a chance to see them reveal their cute hairstyles and such that are hiding under there : ).

Long lost friend

People say the way to make it in this world is by the people you know, the connections you have, and the relationships that last.  Well, I'm not here to say if that's true or not, but I can tell you that the blogging world is a great place to start.  As I was reading my friend Becky's blog today I came across a post she found on a blog she follows.  So, curious little me has to find out who this person is...well what do you know it's the Katie Beth that I know.  But there's bad news...she is on a different blogging sight and I can't follow her through blogspot.  No worries, I have an old Tumblr account that I can dust off and start using again so I can keep up with her and all of the other people on that sight.  Well, the problem is I have not used that account in MONTHS and I have had several different emails between now and when I opened it and I couldn't remember the email address.  No need to fret though because with a little digging around in this ol' memory bank of mine it finally hit me and now I have 2 blogs.  It was actually quite nice to open up that long lost friend.  Things that I was feeling at this time last year are posted on there, feelings I had when I first got married, when I first started this job, when I first started watching a favorite TV Show, people who have gone on from this life, those who have walked down the aisle to a new life, and so and so forth.  So, from here on out I'll be a 2 blog woman.  Blogspot has a special place in my heart, so most of my inner thoughts and dreams will go here, but a simple link is easy to do on my tumblr account just to keep it up.  If you just have the need to read about my life back when click here.
