Charlotte - Round 2

A few months ago we loaded up the car and headed to Charlotte for the weekend.

We did that again a few weeks ago!  This time, however, we didn't take Wren with us and we had a small glitch!!

The co-founders of ACN decided to do a contest of the best story on "How you got to Charlotte."  It was the weekend all the snow came and flights were cancelled left and right, so everyone's stories included lay-overs for hours and having to rent cars and driving for days.  The 10 winners will get to attend a VIP lunch with them on the Saturday of the convention in San Jose California, coming up in June.  Here's our story:

Our story doesn't include the kind of weather that you might think...my husband, Gary Washer and I along with our friends Brandon & Kelsy Beard had planned to leave murfreesboro tn at 4:30 am on Friday morning. That would put us in Charlotte a little before the convention started. However, my husband woke up at 2:30, and for lack of better words, yacking his brains out. I woke up, moved myself and my pillow out of the infested room and texted Brandon and Kelsy. Gary and I were supposed to drive and the hotel was booked through Orbitz under our credit card. Not sure if you've tried to cancel a hotel through Orbitz and especially at the last minute, but they charge you. So, we decided that Brandon could pretend to be Gary and come get his ID and CC so they would have a place to stay when they arrived. I then fell asleep on the couch. Meanwhile, Gary is still hovering over the toilet in the back of the house and for the first time in his life he is forcing himself to throw up to get whatever it was OUT of his body!! He knew the quicker he could get over it the quicker we could be on our way to Charlotte. By 10am he was feeling up for the drive. Still not 100%, but he knew he was on the upward slope of it. We finally arrived in Charlotte just in time for bed on Friday night. And after a good nights sleep we were able to make it for Saturday and Sunday! It was so powerful and definitely picked us up from being "under the weather"!!!

We still haven't heard who won, but are hopeful that we can be some of the guests!!  Getting to pick the brains behind this entire operation is something we can only dream of at this point in our journey with ACN!

The weekend was AMAZING!!  Yes, Gary and I missed all day Friday, but what we did hear was nothing short of remarkable.  We got to see 3 RVP promotions and those alone were so inspiring!

Our own Team Coordinators, Robert and Teresa Epps got to give a short intro of themselves as well as our RVP, Michael Crowder and his wife, Jennifer!  We are blessed to have an up-line that cares so much about PEOPLE!!

On Sunday of every convention there is a guest speaker.  This time it was Andy Andrews.  He was AWESOME!!!!!  The one thing that stuck out in my mind, as well as Gary's, was when he talked about math skills.  Asian kids vs. American kids.

He asked, "In the American classroom, when a teacher asks a student to come to the board to answer a math problem, who does she choose?  The kid who is good at math or the one who is struggling?"  I immediately answer the question in my head as, 'the kid who is good at math.' Andy agrees and goes on to say, "The reason American teachers do that is because they don't want to embarrass any child or cause any one to make fun of them."  He then says, "In an Asian school, the teacher will bring the child up who is struggling with math.  They will get to the board and answer as much of the question as they can on their own and when they get stumped the other students will help out.  They continue this way until they have the final answer.  Then the student puts down the chalk, turns to the classroom and bows.  The Asians help the ones who struggle and the Americans make fun of them."  WOW!!!!!  Now this is not anything against the American school system, this is just American's way of thinking.  Because, I too, would have chosen the 'American Way.'  We need to get out of this mindset and learn to encourage the struggling.  There were sooooo many more nuggets of goodness in his talk and I'm hoping that I have another opportunity in the future to hear him speak again.

Us with Kelsy and Brandon.

After the convention was over we got an invite to Michael Crowder's house
He took a panoramic of the room.  Can you find Gary and me???  We're there, I promise!

It was awesome!!  We got to meet so many people and learned a ton about piquing people.  We finally made it back home around 11pm Sunday night.  It was a quick trip, but OH so worth it!!  We can't wait until next convention!

9 months

Yippee!!  I'm 9 months old!!

Shonta came to our house for her 9 month session and here are a couple of the pictures...
We had bath time, which she doesn't always enjoy, but happen to really enjoy that day (thank goodness)!

This is us in Wren's nursery...I still need to take pictures of the whole thing and post them on here, but there are still some small details that I want to do...so, hopefully before she turns one her room will be completed!

We are getting closer and closer to having a toddler!  Her balance just gets better and better.  She can now flap her arms while she stands (video).  I think it's her version of song leading and I must really bob my head when I sing to her because she tends to do that when she is 'singing' or hears music.  It's adorable!  I need to catch that on video soon!

I thought we were coming to end of breastfeeding last week because she went a few days where she wasn't interested at all!  It broke my heart!!!!  However, I remembered a friend telling me that her son went a week when he was around 7 months where he would only take a bottle, so she just pumped and fed him until he was ready to nurse again.  I kept faith that she would eventually want to again and thankfully she did!!!  I think she might have been mad at me because we left her last weekend to go back to Charlotte for another convention and didn't take her with us.  She also had a small virus that she was working through, so those two things together could have been the culprit for her lack of breastfeeding.  But we are past it and hopefully she will be good until, at least, May!

My family came in town this past weekend and we had a blast!!!!!  Mom and Dad came in on Thursday night and kept Wren on Friday.  They cleaned around the house and did some projects that we haven't had time to do!  It was great!!  We now can use our front door and the toilet in our bathroom ;).  Shelley, Jared and Easton came up late Friday night.  Wren and Easton played all morning Saturday!  Easton LOVES Wren!!  He said over and over, "Hi Wrennie!"  and then give her some love.  Love = holding his head close to yours and making the mmmmhmmmm 'hug sound.'  It's the sweetest thing ever!!  I wish I would have videoed him at least once.  Hopefully next time they are together he will still love on her!!  He has learned to do eskimo kisses and the boy can HONK your nose so hard!!!  Have you heard of Big Block Singsong?? They are short videos that play between shows and commercials on Disney Junior.  The Big Feet one is THE BEST and even Gary and I can watch that one over and over (we may or may not have done that last night).  Anyway, Easton introduced us to BBS over the weekend and Wren loves it!!  Thanks Easton!!  Sadly, I didn't get any pictures or anything of the kids together, but my parents did so at least we have some!!  Rachael and her family were supposed to come up as well, but her grandfather passed away and they had to make a trip to Texas.  We missed them, but know they were where they needed to be.

I love that Wren has so many close cousins in age on both sides!!  One of Gary's cousins had a baby a couple of weeks ago
Owen Sterling
Feb. 13
7:09pm. 7lbs 11oz. 20 inches long.

This coming weekend we are going to celebrate with another one of Gary's cousin's whose baby is turning ONE!!  Yay Lylah We can't wait to celebrate with you!!

The year is flying by and keeps getting better and better!!  Gary was talking to a friend last night when he got home and Wren was laughing and playing with his as well.  He told his buddy that having a kid was nothing like he thought it was going to be, but it's WAY BETTER!!!  I love that he feels that way and he is THE BEST DADDY!!  I know I've said it before, but he can make her laugh the hardest!  He pretty much just has to look at her and she starts cackling!!  It's sooooo precious!!  We are excited to continue to watch her grow and learn new things.  And I'm just trying to relish in each and every moment because they go by so fast!

8 Months

Well, Hello there!  I'm sorry it's been so long since I've posted.  We have been super busy!!

I got a new position at work as a full time trainer and that has kept me moving all day long.  It's new and exciting and I've really been enjoying it!

Things we've done since I last blogged:

Celebrated New Years!!!!

I turned 29

 Wren turned 8 months

She started standing on her own (see video here) the night we took the above picture!  It is one of my most favorite videos!!!

Things she can do/loves:
Stand by herself - she has great balance and can stand for a while now.  I imagine she will begin walking very soon.
Waving - She now has this down and loves to do it!  When she first started waving she wanted you to come and grab her hand while you were waving back.
Teething - She now has her 2 front bottom teeth.
Can you see them??

Eating - She's starting to find things that she likes/dislikes.  Last night we were eating fish, black eyed peas and mac and cheese.  Obviously she gobbled the mac and cheese up.  She would put the peas in her mouth, but then spit them out.  She's still tasting things though, so that's great and all we can ask for at this point :).
Laughing - still does this ALL THE TIME!!!  She gets sooooo much attention wherever we go.  Here she is after she woke up from her nap while we were in Lowe's.  Everyone wanted to talk to her because she's just so darn cute!  But, I'm a little biased ;).

Playing - She likes to be on the move when she's playing.  I can put her in her jumparoo for a little while, but she is tired of it pretty quickly.  She got a fun ball toy at Christmas (from her Bebe) and has really been enjoying that because it sits in the floor and she crawl around while she plays.
Changing - she doesn't like to get her diaper or clothes changed at all!!!  She flips and flops and I usually have to sing  Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah because she loves that song!!  Her light switch is above her changing pad and she's figured out how to turn the light off, with a little help from mommy and daddy, and she loves to do it!!!  I usually let her turn the light off when we leave the room and she jumps with joy!
Sleeping - We are doing a lot better with sleeping this month!  We still have our one-off nights, of course, but for the most part she sleeps through the night in her own bed.

This weekend we are getting her 9 month pictures and we can't wait!!!!  These are probably going to be some of my favorite because she so stinkin' interactive these days.

Hope you all have had a great new year so far and hopefully I won't go an entire month without posting again!
